Fact Check: Is This Live-Action ‘The Lion King 2’ Trailer Real?

An online trailer for a supposed part two of Disney’s “The Lion King,” titled “Mufasa,” surfaced on December 23, 2023, via YouTube account @FoxStarMedia. With over 999,000 views, the trailer claims a 2024 release date, but our investigation reveals it to be fake.

While visually appealing, the trailer exhibits ungrammatical dialogue, notably the opening line spoken by Simba: “Dad, how you became a king?” The response from the Mufasa character shares similar grammatical errors.

Fox Star Media, known for creating fake trailers like a live-action “Moana” and “A Quiet Place: Part III,” includes a copyright disclaimer in its video descriptions. However, the inclusion of a tiger in the supposed part two is misleading, as tigers are not native to the African setting of “The Lion King.”

Notably, other YouTube accounts like KH Studio and NICK VERMA have also released fake trailers for a part two of “The Lion King.” Any authentic trailer for a live-action sequel would be available on Disney’s official YouTube page.

This instance joins a list of fake trailers, including an AI-generated preview for a Pixar version of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”
