Warsaw, January 24, 2024 – CD Projekt (CDR.WA), the renowned Polish video game maker, is gearing up for the production phase of its highly anticipated “Witcher” series sequel, titled “Polaris,” according to joint CEO Adam Badowski. In an interview with Reuters, Badowski shared the company’s vision of having approximately 400 people dedicated to the project by mid-year.
“Polaris” marks a new trilogy set to expand the captivating universe of the “Witcher” medieval fantasy franchise, which has achieved remarkable success with over 75 million copies sold since its debut in 2007. Although CD Projekt has not provided a specific premiere date for the first game in the “Polaris” project, analysts speculate it could hit the market in 2026 or 2027, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the continuation of the beloved series.
This ambitious venture follows CD Projekt’s focused efforts on transforming its studio, especially after the challenging launch of “Cyberpunk 2077” in late 2020. Despite the bug-ridden debut, CD Projekt reported sales exceeding 25 million copies and has since announced plans for various new games.
Adam Badowski, alongside co-CEO Michal Nowakowski, assumed leadership at CD Projekt at the beginning of the year. Badowski highlighted the company’s improved control over the game production process, expressing confidence in avoiding a repeat of the challenges faced with the release of “Cyberpunk 2077.”
In addition to the “Polaris” project, CD Projekt is conceptualizing a sequel to “Cyberpunk,” codenamed “Orion,” with about 80 team members expected to be working on it by the end of the year. While considering the inclusion of multiplayer elements, the company remains tight-lipped about specific details.
Nowakowski mentioned that wage pressures had eased, forecasting relatively low hiring in Polish studios but continued expansion in North America. CD Projekt is also exploring the integration of AI into its processes, emphasizing its role in enhancing certain aspects of game production without replacing human contributions.
As CD Projekt embarks on this ambitious new chapter, the gaming community eagerly anticipates the evolution of the “Witcher” universe and the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality gaming experiences.($1 = 3.8575 Polish zlotys)
