The residence where four University of Idaho students were tragically murdered has been razed, marking the one-year anniversary of suspected perpetrator Bryan Kohberger’s apprehension.
The demolition team commenced work early on Thursday morning to dismantle the property in Moscow, ID. Demolition began just as the sun was rising, and within approximately 15 minutes, the entire front of the building was no longer visible. Although university officials had indicated that the demolition process could span several days, the property now bears little resemblance to its former state.
University authorities stated that the decision to raze the property was made in an effort to minimize further impact on the students residing in the area.
It has been nearly a year since the arrest of 29-year-old Kohberger for the November 2022 murders of Kaylee Goncalves, Maddie Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, who were all tragically found deceased inside the residence.
The Goncalves and Kernodle families released a statement on Wednesday, urging the university to delay the demolition until Kohberger’s trial is concluded, despite the absence of a set trial date.
Kaylee’s family expressed concern that the teardown would compromise a crucial piece of evidence in the case, but the demolition has already taken place.
