A North Dakota legislator, Nico Rios, was arrested for drunk driving in Williston. During the arrest, he made xenophobic and homophobic comments, which were captured on video.

The officers approached Rios while he was behind the wheel and activated their body-worn cameras, documenting the entire whole encounter. The video has since gained significant attention and has gone viral.

You should definitely give this footage a look! The cops are asking Rios a series of questions, and he seems to be slurring his words and getting caught in lies. At one point, he even falsely claims that he doesn’t have an open beer bottle in his car.

Rios provided the officers with an expired registration, which led them to instruct him to exit his vehicle for a field sobriety examination. While undergoing the test, Rios became visibly agitated and began directing threats towards the officers, accusing them of singling him out and promising that they would face consequences due to his identity.

After declining to undergo a breathalyzer test, Rios was promptly arrested by one of the officers, who proceeded to place him in handcuffs. During the journey to the police station, Rios engaged in provocative behavior by mocking the accent of the British-born officer and making derogatory remarks about the perceived influx of migrants and refugees in the officer’s country.

Once inside the stationhouse, Rios directed a homophobic comment towards the officer, prompting the officer to report the series of derogatory remarks made by Rios to their supervisor.

After being charged with DUI and refusing to undergo a chemical test, Rios was released from custody. Following his release, Rios took to X to share a statement expressing his profound remorse and regret to the constituents of his district for his “mistake.” However, he did not extend an apology to the officer whom he had offended.
