A motorist was arrested in Vermont five years ago for flipping off a police officer and calling him an “asshole.” The entire incident was caught on video.
The incident started on February 8, 2019, when state trooper Jay Riggen observed Gregory Bombard give him the middle finger as he drove by in another vehicle.”
When state trooper Jay Riggen stopped Gregory Bombard’s car, the interaction quickly turned confrontational.
In the photo , the officer accuses Bombard of giving him the middle finger, but Bombard denies it, claiming that the officer must have misinterpreted his gesture. The officer then accuses Bombard of being ‘sensitive’ to the accusation.
Riggen became even more irritated by Bombard’s ‘sensitive’ comment, telling Bombard that he had never stopped anyone in the past 12 years for giving him the finger. He was clearly offended by Bombard’s accusation.
He also described the incident as ‘unusual behavior,’ implying that Bombard deliberately wanted to get the officer’s attention with an ‘inappropriate’ hand gesture. He made it clear that he was offended by Bombard’s actions.
The conversation quickly devolved into an argument, with Bombard repeatedly asking Riggen what crime had been committed if he had indeed flipped him off. Riggen couldn’t answer, so Bombard threatened to make a formal complaint against the officer.
Riggen, still frustrated, got back into his patrol car and trailed Bombard’s vehicle down the street. He was clearly still annoyed by their exchange.
In the patrol car Riggen turned on his lights and sirens, announcing that Bombard was under arrest for disorderly conduct. Bombard had previously called Riggen an ‘a**hole’ and told him ‘f**k you as he walked past him.
The rest of it showed Bombard being handcuffed and put into the patrol car, and later taken to jail. However, the charges against Bombard were dropped and the case was closed.
The incident took place on February 8, 2019, and the charges against Bombard were dropped on July 16, 2019. He filed a civil suit against Riggen on March 11, 2021, and the case is still pending as of March 25, 2023.
