Nearly a fortnight after Hayley Erbert, wife of Derek Hough, underwent emergency skull surgery, the couple joyfully celebrated Christmas and their restored health with a tender kiss beneath the festive tree.
Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert are radiating joy. Two weeks post Hayley’s emergency skull surgery, the newlyweds embraced their first Christmas as a married couple. Expressing gratitude, they shared on Instagram, “Cherishing the greatest gift of all—the precious gift of life and the love we share. Hold your loved ones close and treasure every moment.”
Following their “I do” in August, the couple, who weren’t certain they’d have this moment, delighted in a sweet kiss captured in a photo beneath the tree. In the spirit of the season, they extended warm wishes, saying, “Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas!”
Reflecting on the unexpected turn of events after a performance in Washington, D.C., on December 6, where Hayley was hospitalized and diagnosed with a cranial hematoma, the couple detailed her surgery, which involved removing part of her skull to relieve pressure on her brain.
“This holiday season may not be what we envisioned, but we are incredibly grateful,” shared Hough on December 15, emphasizing their deeper appreciation for life and loved ones in the face of the “life-threatening” ordeal.
Their spirits were lifted further after a successful follow-up surgery. Hough expressed gratitude on December 21, stating, “This surgery marks a significant milestone in my wife’s recovery journey, and your support has played a crucial role in getting us here. We are filled with hope and optimism for the future, knowing she is on the path to a full recovery, surrounded by such a loving community…We love you.”
