Donald Trump did not appear in “Home Alone: Lost in New York” as a nod to his talent. Instead, he insisted on a role in exchange for permitting filming at his hotel.

Director Chris Columbus revealed to Business Insider how Trump set a condition for filming at The Plaza by demanding a role in the movie.

Columbus stated, “Similar to most locations in New York City, you pay a fee and obtain permission to film there. We wanted to shoot in The Plaza Hotel’s lobby, owned by Trump back then. However, rebuilding The Plaza Hotel on a soundstage wasn’t feasible.

Chris stated that the future President was straightforward in his condition for allowing them to shoot at The Plaza Hotel, which he owned. According to Chris, Trump agreed to permit filming there, but on one condition: ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.

Columbus believed that Trump’s appearance would annoy audiences, but surprisingly, they cheered during the screening when Trump appeared. So Columbus told his editor to keep Trump in and considered it a memorable moment. However, Trump basically bullied his way into being included.

Perhaps a sign of what was to come in the future.
