On “The Drew Barrymore Show“, Drew Barrymore and guest Reneé Rapp shared a harrowing experience where a stalker suddenly rushed to the front of the stage during a Q&A session at a theater in New York, creating a tense moment.
“You and I, by the way, you’re my protector,” Barrymore said. “Reneé and I had an incident recently where this guy came to attack me on a stage that I was [on] with Reneé, and she mama-beared out and protected me so well.”
During a discussion about Renee Rapp’s debut album “Snow Angel” on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in August 2023, a disruptive individual suddenly interrupted the conversation, shouting the name of the iconic TV show “Charlie’s Angels“, creating a startling interlude.
“Oh my God, yes? Hi!” Barrymore exclaimed as the man approached the stage. “I’m Chad Michael Busto, you know who I am,” he declared, his proximity to the stage causing a sense of unease. “I need to see you at some point while I’m here in New York,” he insisted, his words dripping with an unsettling intensity.
As security guards blocked Busto’s attempt to climb onto the stage, Rapp swiftly sprang into action, embracing Barrymore in a protective hug and guiding her to the side of the stage, ensuring her safety amidst the unsettling incident.
“You’ve redefined sexy for me,” Barrymore said to Rapp, “It’s that intense protectiveness, like you went into full ‘Bodyguard‘ mode!” she exclaimed, referencing the iconic movie. “You’re my own personal Kevin Costner!” she playfully declared, praising Rapp’s chivalrous act.
Busto was taken into police custody after the Q&A session when it was discovered that he had been going door-to-door in search of Drew Barrymore’s home, with Southampton Chief of Police James Kiernan telling Variety that Busto had been “canvassing the neighborhood, knocking on doors and asking residents where Drew Barrymore lived”.
