Paul Walker, famous for his role in the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise, reportedly turned down a $10 million offer in 2003 to play one of the most iconic superheroes in history, a role that could have redefined his career.
In 2003, Paul Walker was presented with the opportunity to play the legendary character Superman, and he even tried on the iconic costume.
Paul Walker, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2013, had the opportunity to play Superman but declined the role. This revelation was shared by his manager, Matt Luber, and stunt double, Oakley Lehman, in the 2018 documentary ‘I Am Paul Walker‘, offering a glimpse into the actor’s career choices and what could have been.
“It was a $10 million offer, and Paul was the top choice for the role,” Luber clarified.
“He was considering it, I knew he was on the fence about taking the role.”
“I knew he was hesitant to commit to a multi-film deal and be typecast as Superman for the long haul,” Lehman added.
Paul Walker tried on the Superman suit.
During a costume fitting, Walker had the opportunity to don the iconic Superman suit, but it was then that he realized the role wasn’t a good fit for him.
“‘I’ve got the Superman suit on, cape, boots, and tights… this isn’t me!’ Walker exclaimed to Luber, before swiftly exiting the fitting, dismissing the role with a playful yet emphatic ‘I’m outta here!’ and a cheeky ‘F*** you'”.
“I could’ve raked in a fortune from that franchise,” Walker told the Chicago Sun-Times in 2003. “I could’ve bought a private jet or even my own island, but it just wasn’t worth it for me.”
“Honestly, I don’t need all that money. I’m happy with my $23 running shoes, $40 jeans, and a $20 or $10 T-shirt from the beach. That’s all I need to live my laid-back lifestyle, no gazillion dollars required!”
In 2003, Walker starred in the action-packed sequel “2 Fast 2 Furious” alongside Tyrese Gibson, which was released to eager fans that summer.
