Texas quarterback Arch Manning, sophomore backup for the Longhorns and nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning, has opted out of being featured in the upcoming EA Sports College Football 25 video game, set to launch this summer.
More than 10,000 college football players have eagerly opted in for the game, but Manning has chosen to wait until he becomes the starting quarterback at Texas before being included, a source confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.
Despite being the No. 2 overall prospect in the 2022 ESPN 300 and having an illustrious high school career at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, Manning has only attempted five passes in one game as Quinn Ewers’ backup during the 2023 season. Ewers’ decision to return for another season means Manning is likely to remain in a backup role.
The source revealed that Manning’s decision is driven by his desire to be the focal point at Texas before making his appearance in the popular video game.
Notably, Manning has been cautious about entering into NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals, despite the lucrative market for his brand. His only NIL deal last year was an exclusive trading card partnership with Panini America, featuring a charitable auction.
EA Sports College Football 25 has seen an overwhelming response from players, with over 10,000 opting in to have their name, image, and likeness used in the game. Players choosing to participate will receive $600 and a copy of the game. EA Sports has reached 87% of its goal for the game, which will showcase teams with 85-man rosters.
Prominent college football figures like Travis Hunter, Carson Beck, Jalen Milroe, Dillon Gabriel, and Quinn Ewers have already joined the roster. The news of Manning’s decision to opt out was first reported by OrangeBloods.com.
