Noni Madueke came off the bench to convert an 89th-minute penalty, securing a 2-1 triumph for Chelsea over Crystal Palace in a closely contested London derby in the Premier League on Wednesday evening.

Madueke drew a foul when he was tripped by Eberechi Eze, and after allowing play to continue briefly, referee Michael Salisbury was alerted by the VAR to review the play on the screen, leading him to reverse his call and award a foul in favor of Chelsea.

During first-half stoppage time, Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise demonstrated exceptional technique by chesting down Jordan Ayew‘s pass unmarked at the far post and then delicately finishing past Djordje Petrovic.

Michael Olise‘s timely goal for Crystal Palace evened the score, negating the effectiveness of Mykhailo Mudryk‘s 13th-minute strike, where he capitalized on Malo Gusto‘s accurate low cross and directed it into the net.

In the first half, Mudryk showed great vigor and dynamism in Chelsea’s strong performance. However, after conceding the late goal and heading into halftime, the team seemed to lose their rhythm and struggled to regain their initial vibrancy in the second half.

Crystal Palace’s defense successfully neutralized Chelsea’s attacks, limiting them to passing triangles outside their area. Despite this, Chelsea had a 76th-minute goal from Nicolas Jackson disallowed by VAR due to an offside call, further hampering their efforts to regain momentum.

Madueke praised both teams in an interview with Amazon Prime, saying, “Crystal Palace played well and defended solidly, but we also deserved the win.”

After the match, Chelsea climbed into the top half of the table, sitting in 10th place halfway through the season, while Crystal Palace remained stuck in a winless streak of eight Premier League games, leaving them in 15th place.
