Vitor Roque arrived in Barcelona on Wednesday and is expected to join the first team for training on Friday afternoon as he prepares to complete his transfer to the Catalan club.
Vitor Roque’s transfer to Barcelona is nearly finalized, pending official registration, after agreeing to a €40 million ($43.6m) deal with Athletico-PR, paving the way for him to join the Catalan club and start training on Friday.
The Spanish transfer window opens on January 2, allowing Barcelona to finalize Vitor Roque’s transfer and enable his official debut against Las Palmas on January 4.
Barça previously reached an agreement with Athletico for Roque, who signed a seven-year contract. Due to Financial Fair Play regulations, the club faced challenges signing players, leading to Roque’s initial delay in joining until the 2024-25 season.
Barcelona’s recent injury crisis and struggles in front of goal have led the club to prefer an earlier arrival date for the 18-year-old, accelerating his transfer timeline to address their pressing needs.
Vitor Roque played his last match for Athletico-PR on December 3, ending a successful tenure that saw him score 28 goals in 80 appearances. His impressive 2023 tally of 21 goals in 44 matches was halted by a sprained right ankle in September, which kept him out of action for two months. However, he’s now set to join Barcelona and begin a new chapter in his promising career.
Vitor Roque will make his public debut with Barcelona on Saturday during the traditional open training session for the public at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, marking his second training session alongside his new teammates.
