According to legal documents obtained by Sports, former NFL player Derrick Ward has been charged with five felonies related to a robbery spree. The charges carry significant potential penalties.
Just two days after his arrest, prosecutors filed five felony counts against Ward. The charges were filed on Wednesday, according to court records.
All five charges filed against Ward were second-degree robbery, according to the court documents.
As we previously reported, Ward is accused of robbing gas stations and other establishments in Los Angeles.
Ward remains in police custody as of Thursday morning.
From 2004 to 2011, Derrick Ward made a name for himself in the NFL. Perhaps his most notable moment was helping the New York Giants defeat Tom Brady’s undefeated Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. The talented running back even signed a $17 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008. Over the course of his career, he amassed 2,628 rushing yards and 12 total touchdowns.
